To let you know I had an e.mail via cancerbackup from a Cynthiaodily which I stupidly opened, it was rude and suggestive. She said she had seen my profile, so would see I'm a granny. Unbelieveable. Any how her e.mail is cynthiaodily @ yahoo.com she asked me to reply to this e.mail, not cancerbackup. Naturally I've junked her and unsafed her. I know you will all be thinking what a plonker, and in this case your right, in my defence, i'm new at this copomuter lark, so, hope I'm forgiven

I also have had an email from someone supposedly through What Now and wondered why they were not contacting me on this site? I opened it but although it wasn't perverted it certainly wasn't someone I wanted to communicate with! How are these people able to get our home email addresses?? I didn't respond to it and just deleted it but I'm like you, you don't always know what you're opening up!

They get your email address Pheonix from your whatnow profile, but they can't actaully "see" it, so unless you respond to emails from these nutters, they don't really know your email address. Just pass the emails on to Thomas and he'll evict them from the site.

Thats wierd, I got the same e-mail, she describes herself as beautiful and romantic (seems totaly inapropriate)

Who would say that about themselves!!! asked me not to reply through cancer backup.

Said she saw my profile and loved it !!!!

Thought it was strange.

It disgusts me to hear people out there try to scam those that are in need of genuine care and support. I find that if im not sure i have a genuine email from mac i log on here and check my inbox.

Jo we are all beautiful people on here. what we have on the inside shines on the outside.. we care, laugh and cry alongside others.

This is just someone who is not worth the trouble and definately a candidate for trial drugs!!! Then see how they feel about themselves...Play with fire so many times eventually you get burnt..(im ready and waiting with matches at hand for them)

I too have had a [what now] email sent but to reply to a personal email address which I did not open. I almost did but since reading your warning of perverts reading our profiles I'm glad i didn't. Thanx for bringing these people to our attention...especially for computer-email novices like myself :)

Clarifying the email thing

hi there,

I just thought I'd clarify the position in terms of how that person (now banned) emailed you.
Anyone who has registered can email you through the site. To do so you go to someone's page and click Email next to their picture. However, your email address remains hidden. They are sending it through a form that doesn't tell them what your email address is. As long as you do not reply to the email they do not have your email address.
You can switch the email facility off. If you would prefer it if users could only send you private messages, you can go into your profile settings (Click 'Edit' on your profile page) and uncheck the box that says 'Personal Contact Form' then press submit at the bottom of the page. If you do that then users can only send you private messages and cannot send emails to your email address.
The main thing to remember is that if you do receive emails from the site...don't reply to them unless you are sure of the sender. Even if you are, you can always come back on the site and send them a private message instead of replying by email...that way your email address stays private.

I have had emails from two people on this site, and I was happy to reassure them and discuss by email, but I have done what you so kindly described.

The Personal Message vehicle is, I believe perfectly secure, so emails are hardly required, except from the site admin when it is something important. These are not blocked even if you block your email to everyone else.

I hope this is clear to everyone.

I recd an email via my email address redirected from What now. from [email address removed] asking me for a relationship (lucky me you might think)

a little off putting as it was tagged as a what now refferal. maybe it is all part of the same scamming system. but this person asked that i reply to thwir personal email address then they would exchange photo's and personal details. saying love has no barriers or borders.

Be aware friends this might be upsetting for some.
