Trevor don't need chemo

Trevor don't need chemo

Well - we saw the oncologist today. I managed to get Trevor to go after another sicky night and morning. I phoned the colorectal nurse as I did think we might have t cancel but she said to get him to hospital and she would get him in with one of the consultants surgeons as well.

The oncologist said that chemo would not be worthwhile - any benefit would be very much outweighed by the side effects and the risk of infection etc. The results of the tissue and bowel section with the tumour in showed that of the 15 lymph nodes removed not one had a stray cell in it, neither did the other tissue so all the cancer was removed in the operation.

Now the challenge is recovering from the second operation which was as a result of the bowel join leaking, causing a form of peritonitis. He had some bloods taken which will be checked for his general condition, and as he is not eating or drinking much he may have to go back in to be put on a drip for a couple of days to set him off in the right direction, especially if it shows he is deficient in salts etc.

He has nystatin for thrush in his mouth and gullet which is what is causing the horrible taste in his mouth all the time, some anti nausea pills and paracetemol.

This evening he has eaten some boiled potatoes and so far so good. He has to have salt on everything, including his frosties and anything fruity so that he has a thirst and is encouraged to drink plenty.

So thats one hurdle over and on to the next, hopefully smaller hurdle.

Hi Kimmie - and what fantastic news for you and Trevour. I know you still have a wee bit to go, but it's all looking good, eh? I'm delighted for both of you, and I hope the road from now on will be easier to travel, God Bless, with love kate xxxxxxxxxx
